Schenectady,NY : Two sent to hospital after Thursday 890 crash on April, Friday 13th 2018

A crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 890 sent two to the hospital with complaints of pain, state police said Friday.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. near mile post 6.5, as a dump truck rear-ended a car that had slowed for traffic, state police said.

The truck moved out of the way, but the rear-ended car remained in the lane as another car struck it, police said.

Troopers identified the driver of initial car struck by both vehicles as Steven J. Moak, 47, of Canajoharie. He was taken to Ellis Hospital for back pain, police said.

The truck driver was identified as 48-year-old William S. Slater, of Watervliet. He was not injured. The driver of the final vehicle was identified as Kimberly A. Rafiq, 29, of Schenectady.

The accident slowed traffic until it could be cleared. The investigation was continuing Friday, police said. No tickets had been issued.
