Naples, FL : Naples man critical after ATV crash in Lehigh Acres on Saturday, March 11th 2017
Alcohol and the lack of a helmet played a factor in a man suffering critical injuries Saturday evening when the ATV he was riding rolled over along a Lehigh Acres road.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Matthew Sommers, 34, was driving a 2012 Suzuki ATV westbound on Meadow Road in the eastbound lane near Hayes Avenue shortly after 6 p.m.

The FHP's report said Sommers veered the vehicle left onto the soft, sandy shoulder. The ATV's front left tire sank into the soft sand causing both steering tires to rapidly jerk to the left. This caused the ATV to overturn with its front leading, ejecting Sommers.
The ATV overturned a second time and ended upside down facing south on top of Sommers.
The FHP said Sommers was not wearing a helmet and the crash was alcohol-related. Sommers was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Charges are pending, the FHP said.
