MARTINSBURG, WV : 20 year-old charged in fiery Harpers Ferry crash on Sunday, 3rd March 2019

A 20-year-old man has been charged with multiple misdemeanor counts after allegedly driving under the influence, striking a utility pole and fleeing the scene.

Jacob Wesley Pullen, of Winona Circle, Harpers Ferry, was arraigned Monday in Jefferson County Magistrate Court on the misdemeanor charges of DUI drugs, reckless driving, obstructing, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, striking a fixture, two counts of possession and two counts of attempting to escape custody.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Ellis was dispatched to a call of a vehicle accident in the area of 887 Mission Road in Harpers Ferry.

The vehicle was reportedly overturned and on fire, court records said. A caller advised authorities that the male was walking away from the scene.

Deputy Ellis said in a criminal complaint that the fire company had the roadway closed down when he arrived, records said. The vehicle was fully engulfed as well as the power lines above and the pole that the vehicle had struck.

While still on scene, Ellis observed a black Ford sedan traveling toward the incident at a high rate of speed, according to court records. Ellis said the vehicle “had no intentions of stopping regardless of the power lines down in the roadway until seeing that the roadway was blocked by multiple fire engines.”

Police said the vehicle came to a sudden stop and then proceeded to travel in reverse at a high rate of speed before turning around and traveling south on Mission Road. The vehicle allegedly almost struck two of the fire units on scene.
