Wilmington, DE : Driver critical after rollover crash on I-95 near Newark on Wednesday, 7th September 2016
A dump truck driver was critically injured Wednesday morning in a crash that shut down I-95 northbound near Newark.
The crash, which involved an overturned dump truck, occurred about 8:05 a.m. Wednesday at the ramp to Del. 896 (South College Avenue), said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, a spokesman with Delaware State Police.
The 51-year-old driver was ejected in the rollover crash and subsequently trapped under the vehicle, New Castle County Paramedics said. To remove him, emergency personnel has to use a "complex and extended extrication," said Cpl. David McKinney, Jr., a spokesman for the county paramedics.
The man was treated for injuries to the upper extremities and a possible head injury as firefighters worked to free him, McKinney said. Once he was removed, he was flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted in critical but stable condition, he said.
