Tulare, CA : 2 Visalia women killed in crash with bus in Tulare County on Tuesday night, January 17, 2017
A collision involving a bus and a car killed two women Tuesday night in Tulare County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the bus, Daniel Johnson, 48, was rescued by a citizen who stopped at the scene, the CHP said, and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major burns.
Just before 8 p.m., a 2011 Chevy bus and a 2011 Ford Fiesta collided at Oakmore Street and Cartmill Avenue just east of Tulare. The CHP said debris and car parts littered the road.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford failed to stop for the stop sign while driving south on Oakmore and hit the left front of the bus, which was heading east on Cartmill and had the right of way, the CHP said.
Killed were Jacinda Avina, 18, and Felisa Garcia, 18, both of Visalia.
Both the car and the bus started to overturn, the CHP said. The bus came to rest on its right side and and caught fire. The Ford came to rest on its right side and the driver was thrown out and had fatal injuries. The passenger remained seated in the car and also had fatal injuries, the CHP said.
The collision is under investigation.
