Phoenix, AZ : Driver dies after fleeing troopers, crashing in Phoenix on Friday, 10th April, 2020

A driver fleeing from state troopers died after crashing into a maintenance structure early Friday in Phoenix, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials.

Troopers tried to stop the car for a traffic violation around 7:15 a.m. near Seventh Avenue and Interstate 17, DPS officials said.

"The driver failed to yield to the trooper’s emergency lights and ultimately fled from the trooper, traveling south on 7th Avenue at a high rate of speed," DPS spokesman Bart Graves said in an email.

The driver veered off the road near Rio Salado Park, which is close to Seventh Avenue and Elmwood Street, according to preliminary details from the investigation.

Graves said the car caught fire after colliding with the maintenance structure, and the driver did not survive the crash.
