Lansing, MI : A woman killed in a Sterling Heights traffic crash on Thursday, June 22, 2017
A woman killed in a Sterling Heights traffic crash has been identified as Shantinique Marie Love, 22, of Roseville, according to Sterling Heights police.
Critically injured in the crash Wednesday on Utica Road near Hayes Road were two 14-year-old half sisters who Thursday were in the intensive-care unit at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, Sterling Heights police Lt. Scott Lucas said. Two others in a second car received minor injuries.
Police said Love was driving a 1999 Buick Century on northbound Utica west of Hayes at 2:52 p.m. when she illegally drove onto the shoulder to pass another vehicle. As she attempted to re-enter the roadway, she lost control of the vehicle and it slid sideways into the southbound lane west of Hayes and was struck by a 2013 Chrysler Town & County minivan.
“Aggressive driving and speed appear to be the contributing factors,” police said in a news release.
Love and two passengers had to be extricated from the Century, and Love was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township.
The two occupants of the minivan, a 59-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, both from Kimball Township near Port Huron, were taken to McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
