Clay County, FL : State trooper from DL injured at Highway 9 and 28th Avenue in Clay County, near Buffalo River State Park on Wednesday, 8th August 2018
A state trooper stationed in Detroit Lakes was injured Wednesday afternoon in a collision at Highway 9 and 28th Avenue in Clay County, near Buffalo River State Park.
Trooper Tyler E. Iverson, 28, of Detroit Lakes suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford health care center.According to the State Patrol, the crash occurred as the 2017 Ford Interceptor Utility squad car was traveling eastbound on 28th Avenue North, approaching Highway 9 with emergency lights and sirens activated.
A 2003 Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 16-year-old boy whose name and city of residence were not released, was traveling southbound on Highway 9 approaching 28th Avenue North.
The squad reached the intersection, came to a stop, and as it continued eastbound through the intersection the Chevy Tahoe struck the front driver side of the squad car. Iverson was wearing a seatbelt. Airbags in the squad car did not deploy.
The teen driver was not hurt, and neither was a passenger, Jadah Kay Haverkamp, 17, of Ada. Both were wearing seatbelts, and the airbag in the Tahoe did not deploy. The State Patrol does not name drivers under age 18 who are given citations.
The accident was reported at 5:22 p.m. on dry roadways. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
