Phoenix, AZ : A man was killed in a crash on 27th Avenue near Interstate 10 on Thursday, 26th December, 2019

A man was killed Thursday in a crash involving a semitruck and an SUV on 27th Avenue near Interstate 10.

Police said Jairo Quinonez, 32, was traveling north on 27th Avenue in a 2008 Infiniti SUV when he collided with a 2005 Freightliner semitractor-trailer.

The truck was exiting a parking lot on the east side of the road, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.

The SUV crashed into the trailer and was pinned beneath it, Thompson said. Quinonez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 45-year-old man who drove the semitrailer was not injured, according to Thompson. He remained at the scene after the crash and was determined not to be impaired, he said.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, Thompson said.
