Pine Hills, FL : SUV trying to avoid collision with car crashes into Pine Hills home on May 27th 2014
Authorities said an entire family, including a 90-year-old woman, narrowly escaped being killed when a SUV crashed into their home on Tuesday.
The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the house on Laurelwood Court near Powers Drive in Pine Hills.
Investigators said the driver was trying to avoid a collision with another car, causing him to crash into the home and into the living room.
Residents inside said the crash sounded like a sonic boom and when the dust settled they couldn’t believe a car had barreled into their home.
"It was like they were in a dummy crash," said resident Andre Morris. "They just came in. Their heads jerked, and then they fell out of the car, and we were like, (we) don't know what's going on. Let's just get our grandmother to safety."
Morris said his grandmother was about 8 inches away from the impact.
Neighbors down the street said they could feel and hear the crash.
"All of a sudden, feel like it shook our house," said neighbor Glory Reynolds.
Five other family members were also home at the time, but they were in different rooms and avoided injury.
"The kids usually play there in the daytime," said Morris. "We have teenage kids that play there."
Morris' grandmother and two people who were in the car were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
