Monroe, WA : 17-year-old girl killed and three other girls injured in fatal crash on Friday November 13 2015

A 17-year-old girl was killed and three other teen girls injured Thursday night when a speeding car ran off rain-slickened Highway 2 near Monroe and crashed. The 18-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries and was possibly under the influence of drugs, the Washington State Patrol reports.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, about three miles east of Monroe near the intersection of Highway 2 and Sofie Road, at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a serious crash.
They found that five young people - the male driver and four teen girls - had been riding in the car, and three of the girls were ejected in the crash. None of the girls was wearing a seatbelt, the State Patrol said.
One 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office identified her as Madison R. Whiddon. The three who survived - a 17-year-old and two 14-year-olds - were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The driver, later identified as Anthony L. Box, 18, of Sultan, was the only one wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was treated at Evergreen Health in Monroe, then arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and DUI, the State Patrol reports.
High speed was a major factor in the crash, state troopers said at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the car, a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, was heading east on Highway 2 when it veered off the road at high speed, vaulted over the guardrail and flipped over multiple times, the State Patrol reports.
