Morristown, TN : Campbell woman dies in Claiborne crash on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017
A Campbell County woman died Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Old Highway 63 in the Powell Valley community of Claiborne County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Valerie Hill, 31, Lafollette, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, according to Trooper Jeffrey Poore. The trooper reported he believes a seat belt could have saved Hill’s life.
Another occupant of the vehicle, Stacy Patterson, a 36-year Harrogate man, was uninjured. Saying he feared he had a warrant, Patterson initially left the scene but later returned, according to THP Lt. Richard Garrison.
Garrison says authorities have not determined who was driving. No charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
“This crash is still under investigation and all information … is preliminary,” THP Lt. Richard Garrison wrote in an email this morning.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on Old Highway 63 near the intersection with Sharp Acres Road. The 2002 Pontiac traveled off the right side of the roadway into a residential yard before colliding with a tree, according to Poore.
Funeral arrangements for Hill had not been announced in Morristown by press time.
