Annapolis, MD : Woman crashes car into a police cruiser stopped on I-95 while officer is inside on Tuesday, 4th October 2016
Maryland State Police said a 43-year-old Maryland woman crashed her car into a police cruiser Tuesday night on northbound Interstate 95 near the Intercounty Connector in Beltsville.
The incident happened about 11 p.m. as a trooper was dealing with a separate accident. While the trooper was handling that incident, a police officer with the Maryland Transportation Authority stopped to assist. The police vehicles were parked along the right side of the highway, in a “construction zone away from the flow of traffic,” authorities said.
The MTA officer was sitting in the driver’s seat of his patrol car with his emergency lights on when the woman, driving a Chevrolet Cruze, hit his car.
After the crash, police said, the driver who hit the police car fled. Troopers later found the car headed north on Interstate 95 and stopped it.
The driver — later identified as Carol Reed of Columbia — was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to return and remain at the scene of an accident, along with other charges.
Reed was not injured, police said. The MTA officer was injured and taken to an area hospital. His injuries are said to be not life-threatening.
