A 10-year-old Jacksonville boy was killed Tuesday night after his family minivan was hit by a truck that overturned on Interstate 10 near Baldwin, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Eli Warren, who was wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene, while his mother was airlifted to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries, the Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. when Atlanta driver Anthony Lumpkin’s Peterbuilt tractor-trailer crossed into the grassy median of I-10, the FHP said. The truck overturned, then slid into the front of a Honda minivan driven by the boy’s mother, 45-year-old Releia Dawn Warren.

Investigators did not state why the truck crossed over the median. But the driver was not injured as the crash remains under investigation.

A prayer service for the family was scheduled for Wednesday night at the Maranatha Church of Jacksonville on Collins Road, where the family worshiped. The church released an image of the boy on its Facebook page at the family’s request, asking for prayers for them “as they face this mountain of grief.” The church is accepting donations to help the family.
