Lynchburg, VA : Person killed in an Amherst County crash on Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Virginia State Police on Wednesday released the name of the person killed in an Amherst County crash on Tuesday.

Mery Diaz-Campos, 42, of Revere, Mass., was driving a 2007 Subaru Legacy south on U.S. 29 near Fletchers Level Road at 7:30 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road as Diaz-Campos tried to avoid hitting a deer, police said.

The vehicle struck a tree, police said. Diaz-Campos died at the scene.
