Charlotte,NC : DUI implicated in fatal crash on December, Thursday 21st 2017

Police charged John Teague, 37, of East Stroudsburg with vehicular manslaughter for a crash that killed the driver of another car on Thursday.

The crash killed Leonard Wolf, 57. No address was given for Wolf.

The crash occurred at 3:26 p.m. on Route 209 near Sand Hill Road in Middle Smithfield Township. Police said Teague, operating a 1997 white Ford F250 pickup truck, was driving under the influence when the crash occurred.

According to police, Teague said he was traveling north on Route 209 when the vehicles ahead of him slowed in front of him in order to make a left turn into a parking lot. Teague said he tried to stop but couldn’t and crossed the double yellow line separating the north and south travel lanes, striking Wolf’s vehicle, a silver 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, head on.

Emergency workers tried reviving Wolf at the scene. He was later transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in Wolf’s vehicle was air-flighted to Lehigh Valley Medical Center Cedar Crest and is currently in intensive care at the hospital with serious injuries.

Teague and his three passengers were taken via ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono for treatment of their injuries.

Troopers interviewed Teague at the hospital after the crash. They noted his eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Blood was drawn from Teague at the hospital to establish his blood alcohol level.

A police check confirmed Teague’s license plates, from North Carolina, were reported stolen in November, and he was immediately arrested for receiving stolen property. Police also learned that Teague’s New Jersey driver’s license had been suspended.

Besides the manslaughter count, Teague was charged with six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence, and other related charges. Six people, including three passengers in his vehicle and one in the other vehicle were injured in the crash.
