Moulton,AL : Former chamber official killed in wreck on July, Monday 10th 2017
A former director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce was killed in a one-car accident Monday night when the car she was driving hit a cow on Alabama 24, authorities said.
Kimberly Adams Hood, 51, of Moulton, was pronounced dead at 11:40 p.m. at the Lawrence County Medical Center, Lawrence County Coroner Greg Randolph said. He said a male passenger in the vehicle was treated in the hospital’s emergency room. He said he doesn’t believe the passenger’s injuries were life-threatening.
Lawrence County 911 Director Tammy Vinson said her office received the call at 10:38 p.m.
Alabama State Troopers reported Hood was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected when the BMW 2.5i convertible she was driving overturned. Troopers said Hood was traveling east on Alabama 24 at mile marker 47 near Lawrence County 108 in the Landersville area when the accident occurred.
Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said his office is assisting state troopers in the investigation.
At the time of her death, Hood was an administrative assistant at Westminster Assisted Living in Decatur.
Jason Houston, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce director, said Hood served as the chamber’s director from 2009-12.
“She had the personality that was so well-suited for the (chamber) job,” Houston said. “When I took the job in 2016 and looked through the chamber archives, I saw the positive impact she made on the chamber and community. We worked well together on the youth leadership program in 2009. … It is such a tragedy she was killed.”
Tami Reist said she considered Hood a close personal friend for the past 10 years.
“Tourism was a strong personal passion of hers,” said Reist, president of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. “I worked on her board when she was chamber director. We would travel together and work together on trade shows. She is definitely going to be missed.”
In 2011, Alabama Mountain Lakes honored Hood with a Green Apple Award, given to the person who has been in the tourism industry less than seven years and exhibited outstanding leadership skills and initiative in their position.
Before joining the Lawrence chamber, Hood worked in real estate with Century 21 Prestige Properties Inc.
