Lonia,MI : Ionia High School senior killed in 2-car accident on April, Wednesday 4th 2018
Kaylee Marie Taylor, a 17-year-old female from Ionia, was killed and a 16-year-old male from Muir was hurt from a two-vehicle head on personal injury traffic crash on M-21 west of Francis Road in Bengal Township at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Sharon Jury, a 59-year-old woman from St. Johns, was driving westbound in the other vehicle — a 1996 Jeep. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office also said Taylor, an Ionia High School senior, who was a front seat passenger in a 2003 Chrysler traveling east, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Due to the snowy and slushy road conditions, the 16-year-old from Muir lost control, crossed the centerline and was struck broadside at the passenger door by the westbound vehicle. The other two drivers involved were transported by Clinton Area Ambulance to Sparrow Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Ionia Public Schools superintendent Ron Wilson sent a note to staff, but not yet to students since they are on spring break this week.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Taylor family in this tragedy and loss,” he said. “We’ll be prepared on Monday when kids come back to have grief counselors available. Especially with a young person like that, it’s so sad and tragic. She (Kaylee Marie Taylor) was a nice young lady. Graduation is coming up in June, and one of their classmates won’t be with the seniors. It’s a tough thing.”
The name of the 16-year-old driver will not be released while the crash remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, which closed M-21 between Francis Road and Forest Hill Road for about three hours Wednesday morning, was assisted by Fowler Fire and Rescue, Clinton Area Ambulance and Clinton County Central Dispatch.
Ionia County Central Dispatch said there were 15-20 slide offs reported due to the snowy and slushy road conditions. The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said there were no noteworthy mishaps.
