Clinton County, MI :I-96 in Clinton County open again following fatal crash on Thursday, July 2nd 2015

One person was killed and eight others were injured in a crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 96, just west of M-100.The nine people injured or killed were riding in a sport-utility vehicle that collided with another SUV in the eastbound lanes near the exit to Wright Road and rolled, state police said.Several of them were ejected from the vehicle, Michigan State Police Sgt. Pete Smith said.The occupants ranged from "infant age to grandmother age," said Smith, who did not know where they are from. A male occupant was killed. The other eight victims suffered "fairly substantial" injuries, he said.Two people riding in the other SUV were not injured, Smith said.The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. and caused police to close both sides of the freeway at the Wright Road overpass for several hours. Traffic was directed off the freeway on both the eastbound and westbound sides and allowed to return to the freeway on the other side of the overpass.The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Smith said.The WZZM 13 traffic map is available at this link.
