An 86-year-old Salisbury Township woman and an unidentified motorcyclist were killed Thursday afternoon in a Route 145, Lehigh Township, crash involving two cars and the motorcycle, authorities said.
Joanne M. Fisher of Cypress Avenue, a passenger in one of the cars, died at the scene, according to Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek. The motorcyclist was taken to Palmerton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller Jr. said the biker had no identification on him, but officials were trying to find out who he was.
The crash occurred at 2:52 p.m. on Riverview Drive, Route 145. In the collision, one vehicle’s front end hit the other’s passenger side, and a motorcycle ended up on an embankment. Further details were not yet available.
Shortly after the crash, officers at the scene radioed that one person was dead and two people were “in bad, bad shape.” Lehigh Township police could not be reached for comment later Thursday.
At least one medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Lehigh Township Fire Company and Northampton Regional EMS also were sent.
The accident happened near Birch Drive, south of Walnutport and 2 miles west of Treichlers Bridge. Riverview Drive remained shut Thursday night for the investigation.
The township has had several fatal crashes over the past several days. On Sunday, a 38-year-old man died in a two-car crash on Lehigh Drive. Police say David Michael Ahn of Northampton died after his vehicle hit an oncoming vehicle.
There also was a fatal crash last Friday that claimed the life of Richard Bowman, a former Saucon Valley football coach whose vehicle crossed into the path of a tractor-trailer, police say.
