Tampa Heights ,FL:Truck slammed into a power pole and driver of the pickup immediately ran away after the accident at Fairbanks Avenue on Tuesday morning ,March 24th 2015

Early Tuesday morning a truck slammed into a power pole, snapping it in half and shutting off electricity for hundreds of people in Tampa Heights.

The accident, which happened at 4:30 a.m. at Nebraska and Floribraska Avenues, caused a headache for many Tampa commuters.

Now police are looking for the culprits.

Tampa police say the driver of the pickup immediately ran away after the accident.

"The obvious reason would be they might be intoxicated, they might have an invalid driver's license, they might have a warrant out for their arrest,” Lt. Rick Ubinas said.

Police said the truck was likely speeding and it's a surprise the driver walked away.

"The driver that fled on foot did not sustain serious injuries. There's blood left in the vehicle but there's not a substantial amount of blood,” Ubinas said.

They're looking for that car too.

After the impact, power was shut off for more than 1,000 homes and businesses. Morning traffic had to be rerouted.

After the sun rose, crews replaced the pole and restored power.
