Polk County, OR : Polk County deputy rescued from burning car after crash on Saturday, July 18th, 2015
A Polk County deputy had to be rescued from his burning car after a crash in Dallas Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Shon Latty was on his way to help an Independence police officer when he crashed into another car on Southeast Monmouth Cutoff Road at 12:07 p.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Latty's car landed in a ditch and caught fire, according to Sgt. Mark Garton. Another Polk County deputy and two Dallas police officers rescued Latty, who was unable to get out of the car by himself, from the burning vehicle, Garton said.
Latty was taken to Salem Hospital. He broke bones in his arm and shoulder, and suffered other minor injuries, Garton said.
The other car was occupied by two people. The passenger was not hurt. The driver was taken to West Valley Hospital and quickly released after receiving treatment for minor injuries, according to Garton.
