Bend, OR : 65-year-old Special Olympian killed after being hit by car while crossing street in Oregon on Monday evening, Nov 23, 2015

A 65-year-old Special Olympian known for his sense of humor has died after being hit by a car in Oregon.

The Bend Bulletin reports that Spencer Robinson White of Redmond was crossing the street near his apartment Monday evening. Redmond Police Lt. Jesse Petersen says investigators believe White was crossing from east to west while north-south traffic had a green light.

White died from his injuries.

White lived independently but court records say Lynn Fields has been the conservator of his estate since 1993.

Fields says White was her dear friend for more than 30 years. He played the drums and loved his job as a greeter at a thrift store.

Police are investigating. As of Tuesday, the driver faces no charges or citations.
