Redwood City,CA : 1 dead after car struck by train in Redwood City on September, Tuesday 5th 2017

Caltrain tracks are clear after a fatal collision between a train and a vehicle early this morning near the intersection of Buckingham and Westmoreland avenues in Redwood City, according to Caltrain officials.

At 5:16 a.m., Caltrain officials announced the tracks were clear. Both tracks had been blocked due to the collision, which occurred at 1:21 a.m., according to Caltrain officials.

Trains are experiencing a 10-minute delay through the Redwood City area as a result of the collision.

The collision occurred when a Volkwagon traveling on Buckingham Avenue drove through a fence and onto the tracks, California Highway Patrol officials said.

According to CHP Officer Art Montiel, the vehicle became disabled on the tracks and was struck by an oncoming train that was traveling from San Jose to San Francisco.

The collision remains under investigation and CHP officials do not yet know if drugs or alcohol were involved, Montiel said.
