Georgetown,DE : Motorcyclist dies following bus crash in Georgetown on August, Friday 4th 2017

A 68-year-old motorcyclist has died after he was critically injured in an Aug. 4 Georgetown crash involving a DART bus.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. A 2009 DART bus, driven by Bridgeville resident Selena Cannon, 51, was in the turn lane on southbound South Bedford Street where it was preparing to turn into the DART bus yard, just north of U.S Route 113, said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale of Delaware State Police.

As Cannon turned and crossed the northbound lanes of South Bedford Street, she drove directly into the path of a 68-year-old Georgetown man riding a 2000 BMW motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle hit the front of the bus, throwing the motorcyclist off the bike and into the windshield of the bus, Hale said.

The motorcyclist, later identified as James L. Barron, was flown to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. He died as a result of his injuries Aug. 7, Hale said.

Barron was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Hale said.

Cannon, who was the sole occupant of the bus, was uninjured. She was cited for failing to yield the right of way on a left-hand turn, and Hale said additional charges are pending the outcome of a police investigation.
