Oklahoma City ,OK :One Motorcyclist Killed after fatal collision along I 35 on Tuesday morning ,September 8th 2015

Oklahoma Highway Patrol members are still looking for the driver of the brown 2006 Honda Accord that caused a fatality collision and kept driving.

A motorcyclist lost his life Tuesday morning while driving south in the middle lane on Interstate 35 between Second Street and 15th Street, said Capt. Paul Timmons, public affairs spokesman for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

"Although the driver of the vehicle causing the collision drove away, a witness was able to give a description of the car and its license tag. At this time we are looking for the driver of a brown, four-door Honda with a Texas tag CFG8702," Timmons said. "We are asking anyone with any information to call *55."

The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on I-35 southbound near the Second Street ramp. I-35 southbound between Second and 15th streets was closed for two hours, 29 minutes.

"A semi was traveling southbound in the far right (lane) when a vehicle in the far left lane attempted a lane change causing the motorcycle driver to lose control and subsequently be hit by the tractor-trailer," Timmons said.

The four-door Honda, with Texas license tag CFG8702, started a chain of actions causing a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Michael Ray Smith, 60, of Oklahoma City, to be hit by the semi. Smith died at the scene due to massive injuries sustained in the collision and was transported by the Medical Examiner's Office to their facility in Oklahoma City, the Highway Patrol report stated.

According to the report, Smith was ejected from his motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. The 2013 Hyundai Tractor Trailer, driven by Robert Lee Sims, 52, of Shaw, Miss., was not injured. The seat belt was in use.

The weather was clear but the cause of the collision and the condition of the drivers is still pending investigation.

The report is based upon the findings of Trooper Phillip Evans of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was assisted by Troopers Michael Moler, Lt. Mark Reynolds, Brian Odom and George Moser as well as by the Edmond Police Department and Oklahoma City Fire Department.
