Jacksonville, AL : Former Pleasant Valley student killed in single-car crash north of Jacksonville on Tuesday, November 4, 2014
A 17-year-old driver died in a single-vehicle crash north of Jacksonville on Tuesday.
According to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown, Steven Huddleston of Jacksonville died on the scene of the wreck, which occurred near the intersection of Williams Road and Cobb Road.
Kevin Cook, a public information officer for the Alabama State Troopers, said Huddleston was driving a 2005 Honda Accord when the car left the roadway and overturned at around 11:15 p.m. According to Cook, Huddleston was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Cook said Wednesday afternoon that the cause of the wreck was still under investigation by troopers.
Huddleston had attended Pleasant Valley High School. Principal Mark Proper said the students and faculty are in shock from the loss.
“He was always full of life,” he said. “He was a great kid from a great family.”
Proper said he believed that Huddleston was not currently enrolled at Pleasant Valley High because he had finished his courses early and was attending Gadsden State Community College.
Efforts to reach Gadsden State representatives were not immediately successful Wednesday.
K.L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville will handle the arrangements, according to a staff member at the funeral home.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Covenant Life Ministries in Alexandria.
