HILDEBRAN, NC : Morganton man killed in wreck on February, Saturday 17th 2018
Hildebran, North Carolina
A Morganton man was killed Saturday after being ejected from his car near Interstate 40.
Tang Thor, 26, was merging westbound onto the interstate from Exit 119 around 10:45 p.m. when he began losing control of his car, said Trooper A. Johnson with the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
He then went off the right side of the road, struck and embankment and overturned, causing him to be ejected from his 1997 Honda Civic. The car landed on top of him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Johnson said.
Thor was travelling alone in the vehicle and likely was not wearing his seatbelt, Johnson said.
The car’s speed has not yet been determined, but Johnson said there is reason to believe Thor accelerated too quickly. The road was wet with rain that fell earlier in the day, but skid marks still were visible.
Burke County EMS, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Icard Township Fire and Rescue and Burke County REACT all assisted at the scene.
