ar crashed into a utility pole off Route 139 in Abington

A car crashed into a utility pole off Route 139 in Abington Friday morning, closing the road temporarily and causing a localized power outage.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Fire Captain George Gardiner said. There was no one else in the car, which did not require a tow.

Approximately 130 customers lost power after the 6 a.m. accident, according to National Grid's outage map. Crews were on scene late Friday morning installing a new pole and putting electrical and cable wires back onto the pole and nearby homes.

National Grid estimated that power would be restored by 1:30 p.m.

Route 139 between Chestnut Street and Lincoln Street was closed for 30 minutes while crews removed a wire from the road, Gardiner said. Traffic was flowing around safety cones by 10 a.m. Friday.
