OTTER CREEK TOWNSHIP, KS : Children injured in one-vehicle accident on Thursday, 7th February 2019
Two children sustained injuries in an accident Thursday afternoon along state Route 358.
The accident took place just before 1:30 p.m., as Melanie Bell, 25, of Franklin, Venango County, was traveling east on Route 358 in Otter Creek Township near Long Hill Road. State police said Bell fell asleep while driving and went off the right side of the road, striking a tree head-on.
Bell was not injured, but both of the passengers were hurt. Police said a 7-year-old girl sitting in the front seat was transported by STAT Medevac medical helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
A 3-year-old boy in the back seat was transported by Life Force EMS to UPMC Horizon Greenville. Police did not provide identification or details on the children’s injuries or treatment.
Police said troopers will issue citations to Bell, including driving with a suspended license and failure to use child safety restraint systems.
In addition to state police and Life Force, Sheakleyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident scene.
