DAPHNE, AL : Pedestrian struck, killed on Alabama 181 on Monday, 1st January 2024

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle this morning on Alabama 181 near Rigsby Road in Daphne, according to police.

The pedestrian was a 46-year-old woman who resided nearby, police said. Her identity was not released.

Police said they received a report at 6:18 a.m. indicating a woman was in the roadway attempting to retrieve spilled luggage. Then, at 6:25 p.m., police received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at the same location.

The vehicle involved was traveling north on Highway 181, and neither alcohol nor excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the incident, according to Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby. He said additional investigation is ongoing.
