HANOVER, NH : Town closes path after cyclist-pedestrian crash on Saturday, November, 25th 2017
The college town of Hanover, New Hampshire, has closed a path used by bicyclists and pedestrians near a traffic circle after a 91-year-old woman was struck by a cyclist and died of her injuries.
The Valley News reports that a 27-year-old cyclist hit the woman Oct. 22.
The cyclist is a Dartmouth College graduate student and has been cited for riding on the sidewalk, which is against state law and a town ordinance if the bicyclist is over age 12.
The town has torn up two paved sections that diverted bicyclists around the circle and connected to a sidewalk. Town officials and cyclists said the access points to the path could be confusing.
The public works director says cyclists should now stay on the roadway and ride through the circle.
