Willcox,AZ : Minor injuries in semi vs. pickup truck crash on I-10 on July, Saturday 29th 2017

A 64-year-old California man walked away with minor injuries Saturday night after being rear-ended by a semi on I-10, near San Simon.

The two vehicle collision occurred at 6:24 p.m., July 29, on eastbound I-10 at milepost 389.5, according to Public Information Officer Quentin Mehr, with Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The semi rear-ended the slower moving pick-up truck, which then ran off the road on the right hand side, while the semi ran into the median, he told the Range News.

The driver of the pick-up was treated and released for minor injuries at Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox, Mehr said.

A Facebook post early Sunday morning by the San Simon Volunteer Fire District described it as a “little bumper car action on I-10 with only minor injuries.”

The post thanked “my awesome professional fellow firemen and women who handled this call perfectly. We are such a great team and I wouldn't trade any of them for anything or anybody in the world. They were quick to set up a 1/10 of a mile lane closure to keep us and the public safe from highway traffic and to keep the vehicles flowing.”

The fire district also thanked the Cochise County Sheriff's Office for the two deputies “who handled traffic control with no problems to keep everyone safe,” as well as the Arizona Department of Transportation's Enforcement and Compliance Division “for their quick response to help with this call.”

The post also acknowledged DPS for their “quick response, as always,” as well as Healthcare Innovations Medic 153 for “their quick response and awesome patient care, as always.”

“With help from all these agencies, we can count on a safe scene for all rescuers and the public,” the fire district said in its Sunday post. “Now please have a safe Sunday and a great week.”
