VERONA, NY : Bay Shore woman injured in single vehicle accident on February, Saturday 24th 2018

A Bay Shore woman was injured Saturday night in a single vehicle accident, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Alicia Ashton, 21, was driving on Beacon Light Road at approximately 10:14 p.m. in a 2010 Toyota Prius when a car, uninvolved in the accident, attempted to pass her at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone.

Authorities said Ashton tried to slow down and pull to the right to avoid a collision. The car began traveling off the roadway, and Ashton was unable to make any corrections.

Ashton’s car traveled of the right shoulder of the road and overturned, deputies said. Ashton suffered minor injuries, which authorities attributed to seatbelt use.

She was taken to Oneida City Hospital for evaluation.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Verona Fire Department and Vineall Ambulance.
