Brentwood, NY : 50-year-old Leonard Joseph dead and 25-year-old Rachel Boerke injured in single-car crash on Long Island on Monday, March 9, 2015

A Long Island man was killed and his passenger seriously injured when his van flipped over into a wooded area off the Long Island Expressway.

Police say 50-year-old Leonard Joseph, of Central Islip, was thrown from the van and died at the scene. His passenger, 25-year-old Rachel Boerke, of Huntington Station, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened at 3:35 a.m. Monday on the South Service Road at Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood.

Police say Joseph lost control of the van, striking several trees and a fence before flipping over.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
