A 42-year-old man died in a crash near the University of Cincinnati overnight, police said.
First responders were called to Clifton Avenue between Straight Street and Joselin Avenue just before midnight after they received a report of a vehicle slamming into a tree.
The driver, Hassane Ghechaoui, was trapped inside his 2007 Toyota Tacoma and had to be extricated by fire crews, according to police.
He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the police department's traffic unit.
Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor, police said.
Impairment is unknown, they said.
A preliminary investigation determined the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle as it traveled north in the center lane.
It hit a concrete curb in the center median barrier, followed by the tree.
Ghechaoui was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
