Glencoe,OH : GlenOak student dies in crash, younger brother in hospital on December, Thursday 7th 2017

An 18-year-old GlenOak High School student was killed Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Middlebranch Avenue NW, and his brother, a 16-year-old GlenOak student, was taken with serious injuries to Akron Children’s Hospital, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Aaron C. Laudermilt, 18, of Plain Township, who was the driver died at the crash scene at Middlebranch, north of Prospect Street NE, about a quarter mile south of Mt. Pleasant Street NE. His brother, Kevin C. Laudermilt, 16, of Plain Township, was transported to Mercy Medical Center by a Plain Township ambulance before he was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital, a Patrol statement said.

According to the OHP, Aaron Laudermilt was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria north on Middlebranch around 2:41 p.m. Due to high speed, he was unable to properly drive around a curve and the car went off the east edge of the road. He responded by overcorrecting, going off the western edge of the road, colliding with a utility pole and large tree and then overturning onto its side and ending up by a home, the Patrol’s statement said.

The two were wearing seat belts. The troopers do not expect to find that alcohol and drug use contributed to the accident.

Middlebranch between Diamond Street NE and Mt. Pleasant was closed by Stark County sheriff’s deputies as investigators searched through the crash scene. The coroner’s office investigator appeared shortly before 3:50 p.m.

Plain Local Superintendent Brent May, who confirmed the driver and passenger were GlenOak students and brothers, said he was on his way to a meeting with a crisis team at GlenOak High School and he wanted to speak with school staff and the students’ parents before issuing a statement.
