An 18-year-old Emmett man who crashed his vehicle into an Ada County deputy's patrol vehicle Wednesday evening was looking at his phone just before the crash, Idaho State Police says. The crash occurred at State Street (Highway 44) and Seneca Springs Way just before 9 p.m. Wednesday. ISP says Holden Falk of Emmett was reading a text message he had just received when he drifted from the eastbound lane into the westbound lane where it crashed into deputy Fratusco's patrol car. The sheriff's office said both drivers are expected to be alright, but the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital for treatment. A coordinator at St. Alphonsus hospital said the teenager was released overnight. Deputy Fratusco was treated on scene and released. He was back at work on Thursday. Idaho State Police troopers on scene said even though a deputy was involved in the crash, they are not treating the collision any differently than normal. "The only thing that's different, is we have a different agency that is involved," Trooper Kenny Walker said. "So if an Ada County deputy is involved, we have a different agency to avoid a conflict of interest. we treat this like any other crash, obviously a deputy was involved, but we're going to investigate it the same way, we don't do anything different." State Street was closed until just after 11 p.m. so troopers could finish their investigation. Falk was cited with inattentive driving.
