Brooklyn , NY : Man charged with vehicular homicide after allegedly driving drunk in a crash that killed his passenger near the Meadowbrook State Parkway on Thursday early morning , November27th 2014

A Brooklyn man charged with vehicular homicide after allegedly driving drunk in a crash that killed his passenger on the Meadowbrook State Parkway was arraigned in his hospital bed Monday and ordered held without bail. Bilal Hassan, 23, was being guarded by three state police investigators when he was arraigned Monday afternoon in an intensive care unit at Nassau University Medical Center. He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated in connection with the fatal crash that happened early Thanksgiving morning. New York State Police say Hassan was on the exit ramp of the Meadowbrook State Parkway near the Southern State Parkway in Uniondale when he lost control of his 2014 Infinity and slammed into a tree at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 27. Investigators said the car burst into flames and Hassan’s passenger, Malih Takkouch, 23, of Brooklyn, who was in the front seat, was killed. Hassan was also injured and has been hospitalized since the crash. “This defendant was driving dunk, on his revoked license, without an ignition interlock device and when he did so, he killed his passenger,” Assistant District Attorney Steven Henesy said. Hassan’s license had been revoked after he was sentenced in October on misdemeanor DWI and reckless driving charges, Henesy said. He was ordered to install ignition interlock devices on any car he owned or operated and is also currently on probation, the prosecutor told Nassau County District Court Judge Scott Siller. Henesy said Hassan had been arrested for a “violent robbery” in New York City in September. Court records indicate Hassan has pleaded not guilty in that case. That case is still pending. source : Brooklyn man charged in crash that killed passenger held without bail
