Baltimore Orioles minor league prospect Ramon Ramirez was killed in a motorcyle accident Saturday in the Dominican Republic.
The Orioles confirmed Ramirez's death in a statement Sunday, expressing their condolences to the family of the 23-year-old infielder.
Our entire organization is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Ramon Ramirez," the team said in an official release.
As a member of the Orioles organization, Ramon worked tirelessly to make the most of his opportunity to play professional baseball. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates, and coaches as we mourn this unimaginable loss."
Ramirez signed with the Orioles in 2014 as a non-drafted free agent and spent last year playing for Class A-Advanced Frederick and Class-A Aberdeen, and also had a stint in the Gulf Coast League
