High Point, North Carolina
One person was killed in an officer-involved crash in High Point Tuesday morning.
Spencer police say the officer "was traveling southbound on the roadway in a marked patrol vehicle when a collision occurred with a motor scooter."
The officer attempted to perform life-saving measures but was unsuccessful, police say.
The person on the scooter, identified as 61-year-old William Rex May, was pronounced dead on scene.
Police say both vehicles were in the roadway at the time of impact and the driver tried to avoid the scooter. The officer was not injured in the crash.
The 911 call made by the officer said the scooter had no lights in the back.
The crash remains under investigation by the High Point Police Department.
"Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the May family and I ask that you pray for Officer Ward during this difficult time," Spencer Chief of Police M.T. James says.
