Carson City, NV : 2 people were ejected and 1 killed in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 580 north of Carson City on Friday morning, March 4, 2016
Two people were ejected and one killed Friday in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 580 north of Carson City, shutting down southbound traffic in Washoe Valley for several hours during the morning commute.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a female passenger in the southbound white Dodge pickup was confirmed dead in the accident north of Bellevue Road at about 6:15 a.m.
Trooper Duncan Dauber says the driver, 50-year-old Oscar Esparza of Sparks, was transported by helicopter to a Reno hospital in serious condition.
Both were lying in the median when authorities arrived. Traffic was diverted until the southbound lanes were reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
Dauber said in a statement late Friday neither is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt and "impairment is under investigation at this time."
