Two teens have died after a two-car collision Friday at 59th Avenue and Camelback Road on the Glendale/Phoenix border, officials said.
The Phoenix Fire Department and Glendale Fire Department responded to the crash at 7:34 p.m. According to Glendale Police Sgt. Scott Waite, a small gray vehicle traveling westbound tried to turn south onto North 59th
Avenue when it collided with a green truck traveling eastbound.
The gray vehicle was occupied by four juveniles, according to Waite. Firefighters used hydraulic extraction methods to free the injured individuals from the wreckage, according to Phoenix fire spokesman Capt. Aaron
Ernsberger. Three of the juveniles were taken to the hospital, where the 17-year-old female front passenger and a 16-year-old male passenger were pronounced dead. The third passenger had serious injuries. Police did not
provide any information about the condition of the fourth individual in the gray car.
Police have not released their names.
Police detained the driver of the truck, a 27-year-old man. Police said they were investigating possible impairment, speed and whether a red light had been run.
