Salida, CO : Man receives minor injuries following wreck near Sonic Drive-In Monday, November 14, 2016
Robert Sparling, 87, Salida, sustained minor injuries following a wreck Monday at the intersection of U.S. 50 and CR 111.
Sparling was driving his 2000 Buick Park Avenue westbound on U.S. 50 around 9:30 a.m. when he attempted to turn left near Sonic Drive-In, the Colorado State Patrol reported.
As he attempted to turn, Sparling hit a 2008 Dodge 1500 pickup driven by Brent Thone, 62, Blair, Neb., who was driving eastbound on U.S. 50.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Brandon Wilkins said Sparling was cited for failure to yield right-of-way when turning left in front of approaching traffic.
Drugs, alcohol and speed were not factors in the wreck, Wilkins said.
Salida Police Department, Chaffee County Emergency Medical Services and Colorado State Patrol responded to the incident.
