Jefferson City, TN : No serious injuries in bus wreck on East Dumplin Valley Road at Miller Road early Monday morning, February 13, 2017

No one was seriously hurt when a school bus headed toward Jefferson County High School skidded into a ditch and lodged against a tree early yesterday morning, troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported.

The one-vehicle accident occurred on East Dumplin Valley Road at Miller Road, Trooper Jeff Coffey reported. Thirty-one students were on the bus headed to the high school and Patriot Academy. There were no serious injuries, and students were transferred to another bus to continue the trip to class. Coffey said some students may have gone by personal vehicle to be checked as a precaution.

Driver Kenton Williams was cited for failure to exercise due care, the trooper said. Headed west, Williams was momentarily distracted, and the bus ran into the ditch line, where it traveled 247 feet before striking the tree, according to the trooper’s report.

Sgt. Curtis French and Deputy Kelly Mann of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department assisted troopers at the scene. School Transportation Director Sherry Dotson also responded.
