A 19-year-old man was killed in a three-car collision Tuesday evening near Manzanita Regional Park in Monterey County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, the man was driving a 1993 Nissan Quest heading north on San Miguel Canyon Road near Strong Circle in unincorporated Royal Oaks, where he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a 1998 Chevrolet Astro van traveling south, CHP officials said.
The Nissan then struck a southbound 2013 Freightliner that was driving behind the Chevrolet, according to the CHP.
The 19-year-old Nissan driver, whose name was not immediately being released, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 44-year-old Salinas man, and his passenger, a 38-year-old Salinas man, were transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment, according to the CHP.
The 41-year-old Watsonville man driving the Freightliner was not injured, CHP officials said.
Investigators are looking into whether alcohol or drugs was a factor in the collision, CHP officials said.
One-way traffic control was in place along San Miguel Canyon Road while officers conducted an investigation and a tow company removed the cars, according to the CHP.
The roadway reopened around 8:30 p.m., CHP officials said.
