Easton, CA : Man dead, woman hospitalized in a Suspected DUI crash near Easton Friday evening, November 18, 2016

A suspected drunken driving collision near Easton left one man dead and a woman in serious condition at Community Regional Medical Center Friday evening, California Highway Patrol said.

Around 6:30 p.m., CHP responded to a collision near the intersection of Walnut and Adams avenues. Sgt. Manuel Peregrina said Michele Medrano, 30, was driving west on Adams Avenue when she broadsided the vehicle of the unidentified man who failed to stopped while traveling south on Walnut Avenue. Authorities said Medrano, of Fresno, had the right of way.

The man’s vehicle overturned southwest of the intersection and landed in a grape vineyard on its roof, said Peregrina. The 40-year-old man died of his injuries.

Medrano was not wearing her seat belt when she was launched into the back seat of her car, authorities said. The vehicle landed on a dirt shoulder south of Adams Avenue, west of Walnut Avenue.

The crash remains under investigation, but officials believe alcohol may have been a factor.
