COURTLAND, VA : Deputy county worker injured in crash involving garbage truck on Friday, 27th October 2023

A Southampton County deputy sheriff and a worker with Southampton Public Works are both recovering after the deputy ran into a Southampton Public Works roll-off truck used for trash collection Friday morning.

According to a spokesperson for Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, this happened at around 10:50 a.m. on Meherrin Road near White House Road in front of the Courtland Refuse Collection Site. The deputy was on duty and driving a Sheriff's Office vehicle when the crash took place.
