NORTHWEST MARION COUNTY, FL : FHP IDs man killed in crash on U.S. 27 on Saturday, 13th October 2018

The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of the man killed in a two-car crash on U.S. 27 at County Road 464B on Saturday afternoon.

David P. Champ, 54, of Dexter, Michigan, died as a result of the 2:45 p.m. crash about 12 miles northwest of Ocala, according to an FHP trooper at the scene on Sunday, who said Champ’s family had been notified.

The FHP press release about the crash says that Champ was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla north on CR 464B and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 27.

Champ then crossed into the U.S. 27 paved median and “across the westbound travel lanes, violating the right of way” of a white 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Penny Heatley, 41, of Morriston, which was traveling west on U.S.27 just east of CR 464B, the release says.
