LONDON GROVE, PA : 2 injured in crash involving 2 tractor trailers on Route 1 Bypass in London Grove in the northbound lanes near Route 841 on Monday, 3rd June 2019
Two drivers were injured after their tractor trailers collided on the Route 1 Bypass in London Grove Township on Monday morning, according to state police.
Pennsylvania State Police Avondale responded to the crash, reported serious, at about 4:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Route 841.
State police said that the initial investigation revealed that a tractor trailer, operator one, had rolled onto its side across the roadway. A second tractor trailer, operator two, was unable to come to a stop and struck that tractor trailer on its side which caused operator one to be ejected and trapped operator two in the cab. The second tractor trailer had significant front-end damage.
When troopers arrived on scene they located operator one and rendered aid. West Grove Fire Company and Longwood Fire Company responded and extricated operator two and provided medical aid to both drivers. Both drivers were then transported to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.
The Route 1 Bypass closed between Route 796 and Route 841, with traffic detoured onto Baltimore Pike through West Grove Borough. The righthand travel lane on US 1 reopened shortly before 11 a.m. Monday while the lefthand lane will remain shut down for another couple hours due to the cleanup, according to state police.
The investigation is ongoing.
